Digital Signage Network Using BroadSign Edge Server Technology

The BroadSign Edge Server software is used to reduce the consumption of Internet bandwidth by BroadSign Players for medium to large digital signage networks.
What does the BroadSign Edge Server do?
BroadSign Edge Servers improve the overall cost-efficiency of your network by reducing the amount of data exchange with the main server that occurs through the Internet or over satellite multicast.
BroadSign Edge Servers are typically used when a private network such as a retail outlet contains multiple BroadSign Players that playback a high percentage of identical content. When an Edge Server is installed, all BroadSign Players request content directly from the BroadSign Edge Server, thus avoiding the more costly connection to the main server (BroadSign Server). When the BroadSign Edge Server does not have the requested content available, it will retrieve it from the BroadSign Server and cache it locally. Content can be delivered through the Internet or via satellite multicast, depending on the network’s configuration.
Once the BroadSign Edge Server has cached the content locally, all future requests for the same content by other BroadSign Players will be fulfilled through the local network, thereby greatly reducing costly bandwidth fees.
To bring down the initial cost of deployment, it is also possible to install the BroadSign Edge Server on a playback device that already runs the BroadSign Player software. Doing so reduces the amount of hardware necessary to operate your network.
